HOW TO PICK STUFF UP: 5 tips for proper lifting.

Updated: Sep 21, 2020

1. Keep the load as close to you as you can throughout the lift.

2. Keep your low back in neutral, maintaining the normal forward curve.

3. If you must change direction, do so by pivoting from the feet, not by twisting the back.

4. Keep a wide base of support: set your feet apart, or even offset, so you have a stable base to lift from

5. Lift slowly, with control and know your limitations. If you cannot control it, it’s too heavy.

Proper lifting technique will help prevent undue stress on not only your low back but also your neck, shoulders and other body parts. It takes time to create good habits, but once ingrained, they may prevent a serious injury.
